La R47 è una potente calcolatrice scientifica programmabile basata sul sistema RPN, dotata di un'ampia gamma di funzioni. Il suo software è stato perfezionato nel corso di molti anni, frutto della visione di una calcolatrice da sogno sviluppata da un team di ingegneri e matematici, tutti appassionati di calcolatrici.
Sviluppata dalla comunità e prodotta da SwissMicros, la R47 utilizza un firmware funzionalmente identico a quello della C47, che offre un modo per trasformare una DM42n in una calcolatrice RPN ricca di funzionalità utilizzando una copertura dedicata per la tastiera.
Il firmware C47/R47 ha avuto origine come fork del progetto WP43, a sua volta derivato dal WP34S. Un componente fondamentale tramandato attraverso questa discendenza è la libreria decNumber di Mike Cowlishaw per l'aritmetica decimale di precisione.
